POWER TO THE PEOPLE CONFERENCE

Helena Kennedy QC invited over 500 delegates to help us explore and debate Power to the People's recommendations and discuss how to take the agenda forward. The conference included:
- responses to the report from senior figures from the three main political parties
- Q&A sessions with these politicians
- a ‘Question-Time’ style panel debate exploring different aspects of the Power Inquiry report
- ‘breakout’ sessions and debates

Launch of the Power Inquiry report: “Power to the People”
27 February 2006
After eighteen months of research, public and expert evidence, the Power Commission published their recommendations on how the way we do politics in Britain might be shaped for the future. An evening reception in the heart of Westminster on 27 February marked the launch of Power to the People. Members of the public, those who have contributed to the Inquiry through evidence or support in other ways, representatives from think-tanks, the media, MPs, Peers and others gathered to mark the day.

Power at Hay-on-Wye

Helena Kennedy QC, Chair of the Power Commission, spoke about the Power Inquiry’s work in a special session at this summer’s Guardian Hay festival. On a sunny Sunday afternoon, over 200 people came to explore Power to the People's recommendations and share their enthusiasm for renewing Britain's democracy.
Power at the Compass National Conference

Helena Kennedy QC will give a keynote address on the POWER report and its contribution to progressive politics at the Compass Robin Cook Memorial Conference on 17th June. POWER will also host a seminar at the conference entitiled 'Mortal Enemies: Will the private sector kill democracy in public services?' featuring contributions from Neal Lawson, Prof. Julian Le Grand and Prof. David Marquand
